A rebirth of sorts 22 March 2009

It's funny because I had chosen to give up fighting games (and essentially video games, in general). From about 2002 to 2006, I was pretty in to the southern California fighting game scene and while I was never very good, I appreciated what I saw and enjoyed the people I'd met and experiences I have had. From driving 20 minutes north to Anaheim for Camelot Golfland tournaments to organizing my first local tournament there. I'd been to tournaments at UC Irvine, UCLA and Cal Poly Pomona for two Evo tournaments. I'd traveled to Sunnyvale, CA for the first Norcal Regional and to Vegas for the 2006 Evo tournament. I was there for the first SBO qualifiers at Camelot, but I decided it was time to move on. I'd made friends and kept one and figured it was best I focus on school and eventually college.

This year, though, I came to Singapore and all that changed. I had planned to lounge by the pool and bathe in the sun but Street Fighter 4 was released recently and after 2~3 years, I jumped back in. I don't know what I'll do once I'm home, but while I'm here, I'm engrossed. I've met some pretty stellar people here, due to our connection to competitive fighting games and as long as I'm here, I want to make the most of it.

I'll go further into the people I've met and the Singapore scene in the next few days but for now check out SF4 Singapore for insight into the community and scene here and its ring-leader, Leng.
